FULLERTON, CALIF. – Morningside continuing care retirement community in Fullerton, California, is now offering a free creative writing class open to the public every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. Morningside is located at 800 Morningside Dr.
Taught by June Edwards, a longtime journalist, professional writer and creative writing instructor, the class is part of the North Orange County Community College older adults program. The spring semester for the class has recently begun, but new students are welcome.
Participants in the class write on a variety of topics including family history, memoirs and local history. Some writers compile a book of their writings at the end of the semester as a way to document their lives and present them as gifts to their loved ones.
Students are assigned a writing project each week which is then reviewed by Edwards. The class includes a brief lesson on various aspects of writing as well as short, in-class exercises. A writers’ fair is also held each semester with an anthology published each year.
Although the class is open to the public, Morningside is a gated community and reservations are required. Please contact Morningside at 714-256-5011 for more information or to make a reservation.
