Luau at Morningside
On a warm, but lovely, summer’s day, the residents of Morningside enjoyed a festive Hawaiian Luau. Wearing colorful island attire, residents enjoyed a tasty Hawaiian-themed meal in the Crystal Terrace Dining Room, then, as the sun began to set, gathered on the Green for a traditional Hawaiian Luau Show. The Tupua band and dance troupe shared music, stories, songs and dances from the Islands and instructed residents in the art of “dancing” the Hukilau, which was a way of fishing for ancient Hawaiians.
Who doesn’t like a delicious ice cream cone? Residents at Morningside can select from many flavors of ice cream for their cone, including those pictured. Try a tasty swirl cone or a vanilla with chocolate syrup. Tempt your taste buds with a cone of chocolate ice cream with nuts, a double spumoni or a cone topped with chocolate malted crunch ice cream. Yummy!
Morningside enjoyed a Country Cowboy weekend this summer which featured Cowboy Jimmy, a trick roping and bullwhip artist; a Cowboy Campfire sing-a-long party with guitarist and singer Mr. Kim Olson, and a Saturday night western dance party featuring a fantastic country swing band, The Lucky Stars. This awesome group of musicians had us all tapping our toes and singing along to some favorite tunes. Yee Haw!
The Morningside Jazz Club
The Morningside Jazz Club was in full swing on a recent Monday night. Dr. Joe Lawton and his jazz band performed a variety of up-beat tunes to the delight of those in attendance. Guest singer, Elaine Gilliam, showed off her amazing vocal skills throughout the show, singing several classic and jazz tunes. The Morningside Jazz Club is an evening event held bi-monthly in Lakeview Hall and gives residents an opportunity to sit, relax and enjoy some great jazz music performed by various local jazz musicians.
