FULLERTON, CALIF. — Morningside, the Continuing Life® retirement community in Fullerton, Calif., celebrated the start of the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Dragon, this week with a full day of entertainment and a sumptuous Chinese feast. The Chinese New Year is the longest and most important holiday on the Chinese calendar. The celebration starts with the new moon on the first day of the new year and ends on the full moon 15 days later with the Lantern Festival.
In keeping with ancient Chinese New Year tradition, Morningside residents enjoyed performances by a professional troupe of Chinese entertainers consisting of five musicians, three dancers, 10 dragon dance performers and four specially-trained dragon musicians. The troupe performed centuries-old Chinese New Year dances and music for more than 140 residents at Morningside’s Lakeview Hall, transformed for the occasion with hanging lanterns, wall hangings and a large, ornate dragon. Fortune cookies and tea were also served during the event. For more information, go to www.morningsideoffullerton.com or www.facebook.com/MSretirement.
